Fibbling  - a small, legendary creature, similar to a faerie, which resides in the mountainous woodland areas of Northern Ireland. Fibblings have special powers and despite their vampire-like teeth, they do not prey on humans.  According to legend, they lived in the trunks of large trees and fed on bluebells and potatoes. Dressed usually in light, brightly-colored woolen clothing, their most visible attire was their creative hats (and later laurel crowns for the elite few that were honored as Supreme Fibbling).  In general however, each fibbling adorns a unique hat that expresses his or her personality.

Fibblings have just one child per family and they have a life span of about 500 years. The only thing capable of cutting short their long life spans was the dreaded banshee, whose piercing scream, if heard by the fibbling, would kill it instantly.

The distinguishing characteristic of a fibbling is that it tells a significant lie to those who encounter it. Although not malevolent in nature, these little folk would often mischievously tell a tall tale, or fib, and if the unsuspecting victim made the mistake of believing the story, they would usually learn some kind of moral lesson in the process. In contrast to the Leprechaun, whose tricks were primarily to protect his secret stash of gold, the fibbling's tricks were aimed at benefiting the supposed victim in teaching them a valuable life lesson.
